Nojoqui Falls travertine base

Nojoqui Falls was built out as water spills over a cliff and deposits travertine. Most waterfalls erode and wear back at the cliff, but Nojoqui Falls have been deposited as waters saturated in carbonate cascade down the face, exsolvate CO2, then deposit travertine. The end result is a "skirt" of material constructed and bulging out of the cliff face. At the base, a tiny notch is wear travertine has been redissolved to make a mini-cave in the travertine skirt. Nojoqui Falls County Park near Solvang, CA. (free entrance, easy 10 min hike to falls)
