I usually take only one opportunity a week to look at the night sky. That is Thursday night when I put out the waste, recycle, and compost carts for Friday morning collection. I made this photo of the waxing crescent moon on such a Thursday night. I was not sure I could capture anywhere near a clear image because the moon had a haze surrounding it on the otherwise clear night. I shot this hand held at full telephoto zoom and spot focus at infinity using my Canon Powershot SX50. I found the subject in the vast night sky using the framing assist that, with the push of a button, widens the view so I can see the moon and focuses it in when released. Nice feature for long distance night shots.
