Filled self checkout registers in San Francisco supermarket 20200302-130432 cw50 C4

I made this photo from behind a line that had been formed by customers waiting in a long line to self checkout at a Safeway Supermarket in San Francisco. If I remember correctly, this market had eight self checkout registers in operation at either of the main doors to the store and only four checkout registers staffed by employees. Of course, there is one store employee at each bank of self checkout registers to help customers and mitigate theft (which is easier at self checkout registers - with the cost offset by savings in employee wages). As a life long unionist, I will not patronize self checkout lines in stores or, now, even in libraries. I remember my father using the term Dog Robber (he being a military man). Though a stretch from the found definitions of the antiquated term, I remember him implying that the term applied to people stealing other people's jobs, such as the common citizens are doing against the paid workers, as this photo documents.
