Moon and Venus from San Francisco December 28, 2019 20191228-173605 cw50 C4

I made this vertically held photo of the Moon and Venus 12 seconds after the previous photo where I held the camera in a comfortable horizontal position. The date was December 28, 2019, my 76th birthday. The place was the front stairs of our San Francisco home.

This is the first time I can remember successfully photographing Venus and the moon and I was delighted to get this photo opportunity.

I think this may also be the first photo I have made of the moon holding my camera vertically. Even with image stabilization, a vertical shot of the moon is not preferred.

I feel very lucky to have made this and the previous image captures of the Moon where Venus can actually be seen. As usual for shots like this, I used my Canon Powershot SX50. I did not realize that I shot this at 1/4 second until I saw the EXIF information on Flickr. I am surprised the image was at all decent.
