Those Left Behind sculpture by Dennis Smith located at LMSG - Living Memorial Sculpture Garden north of the town of Weed in Northern California June 23, 2013 faded flag photo 20130623-132143 C4

June 23, 2013 was the fourth time I visited the LMSG - Living Memorial Sculpture Garden; this time with my Melody and our friend Fran, a friend who lived nearby and had just lost her husband of 35 years to brain cancer. After this visit to LMSG, Melody and I would be taking Highway 97 north from Weed some 120 miles to Crater Lake National Park across the Oregon Border. The entrance to LMSG was easier to find since it was adorned with the sculpture Peaceful Warrior atop a stone base; a lot different this first time than in 2009 when the entrance we not so prominent. This photo of the sculpture For Those Left Behind by Dennis Smith showed the widow of a fallen soldier holding a folded Stars and Stripes United States Flag now faded by the heat of the summer sun and the freezing of the winter snow. Even the weather was faded on this day. The flag was brightly new in the previous slide. I made this 2013 photo of Those Left Behind with my Canon Powershot SX30. As of the publishing of these two Those Left Behind photos on Flickr in 2016, the LMSG website shows the widow with empty hands. Mt Shasta and Mt Shastina still show in the background.
