Mist covered moon 20171230-181911 C4

This is the second of two photos I made of the moon over South San Francisco that was obscured by a misty fog. I am not sure why I attempted this image capture since none of my previous attempts to photograph the moon on a misty or foggy night have been remotely successful. The difference with the obscure moon on this evening a couple of nights before the end of 2017, was that the fuzzy moon was caused by atmosphere away from the surface of the earth. I was not shooting through fog that I could see or feel close up but through fog or mist that appeared close to the bright globe itself. I know physics would not bear this out, but that was my impression as the photographer. In any event, the moon with a glow around it was pretty much how I saw it with the naked eye. As with all moon shots, I used manual settings and focused at infinity. I could tell the obscure moon was dimmer than usual because I needed to shoot this at 1/60 after shooting the previous image at 1/100 second. Both hand held. The detail of the moon was not discernible through the astronomical haze covering the orb.
