Waxing Crescent slice of moon Christmas evening 2014 20141225-195313 C4
This image of a waxing crescent moon was captured on Christmas evening 2014 with my Canon Powershot SX50. In 2914 my key to making photos of the moon was to treat the shot like a day time shot since the moon is so bright, even one that is only a slice like this. I used maximum zoom, in this case 1200 mm, manual settings since the camera will otherwise let the dark sky overly influence exposure - in this case 1/400 sec, and focus set at infinity. Some other advantages to shooting with the SX50 are image stabilization and the framing assist button that makes a subject at full zoom much easier to find. A few years later, I changed my method to mostly using spot focus and a trying wither speed preferred, aperture preferred, or manual settings.
