Bees in cluster on top of turpentine bush along Mono Lake south Tufa trail 20110924-164812 C4

Many Turpentine bushes were growing among the tufas on the Mono Lake south Tufa trail. As I was walking past a thick bunch of bushes, I heard a buzzing. Upon closer inspection, I found this cluster of bees had gathered on the the yellow heads of the turpentine bushes. Luckily my Canon EOS 60D had an articulated monitor - making it possible for me to hold my camera high above my head and still see the bees in the monitor. Though the bees probably would never have noticed me, I captured the image and continued along the trail to Mono Lake. Just goes to show you never know what you may find in the wild - even along a well traveled trail. You can see turpentine bushes in the previous slide.
