Young Avocet feeding at Old Marina Mono Lake eastern California 20110925-080042 C4e

Captured this image of a young Avocet bird around 8 am on our only full day in the Mono Lake area of eastern California. I believe this is a young Avocet because of the brown feathers. If you look closely you can see drops of the Mono Lake water at the end of its long bill. There were many birds at this part of Mono Lake called the Old Marina. This was our first stop on the way from our lodgings in Lee Vining to Bodie ghost town Historic State Park some 35 miles up Hwy 395 and State Route 270. Old Marina was a nice start to the day after our early morning breakfast. We were not in a hurry.

Image captured with Canon Powershot SX30.
