Edge of the Great Basin Desert information signs Mono Lake in eastern California USA 20110925-131702 C4

Edge of Great Basin Desert sign located above California State Route 395 and a view of Mono Lake and the Western most edge of the Great Basin. The Great Basin covers 10,000 Square miles (26,000 square kilometers) one edge being the Mono Lake area and covering states of California, Nevada, Utah, and parts of Oregon and NW tip of Arizona. The information about areas referred to in this and other signs are in the Mono Lake slides preceding and following this one. Though we never got to see into the Panum Crater, we did walk around the backside of the depicted sketch here. There is much more to this area than can be experienced in one trip or one season.
