Tufas in Mono Lake taken from the south Tufa beach 20110924-175102 C4
Captured this image of Tufa Towers jutting out of Mono Lake as seen from the beach accessible from South Tufa parking area. Since tufa limestone formations only form underwater, most are visible near the shorelines where the water has receded over the last 70 years since water was first diverted from Mono Lake. Captured this setting sun photo of tufas with a Canon EOS 60D set at pretty wide angle focal length nearing the end of our first day in the area since seeing the sites from mid afternoon start at the Mono Lake Visitor Center in the town of Lee Vining, farther north from this location.
