Panum Crater Trails decision Plug trail left - Rim trail right Eastern Calirofnia near Mono Lake 20110925-162816 C4
This is the first of three slides of images captured near this spot on a Crater Trail high above Mono Lake. You can see the relationship to the lake in the following slides. Time was about 4:30 PM on the last full day of our stay in Lee Vining California where we visited Mono Lake, Bodie Ghost Town State Park, and surround countryside such as June Lake loop, this Panum Crater, Overviews high on California Route 295, and historical and tourist sights right in the town of Lee Vining.
I have visited craters before, most in the sweltering heat of the day. This afternoon was cool but we had little information on which way to go when this sign presented the choice of right or left. Getting tired from an already full day, we decided to abandon the crater exploration and finish our photography day amidst overhead clouds, rain, and rainbows before gassing up the car, having a nice dinner at a local cafe, and heading to our rooms at the Murphey's Lodging in Lee Vining. So this and the other craters were put on hold for a future Mono Lake trip - this time with my lovely bride, Melody along for the experience.
