SR 32543 at Tulse Hill with the stock for the JOHN MILTON ramblers special June 3rd 1956
Taken from a photograph by R C Riley in my collection. The special train started headed by 32543 at Crystal Palace and ran to New Cross Gate where LTE 14 BENJAMIN DISRAELI worked to Rickmansworth with LTE 2 THOMAS LORD on the rear. After reversing at Rickmansworth the special then worked to Chesham., where LTE L48 took over for the return to Rickmansworth. LTE 2 headed to return to Crystal Palace with L14 at the rear.
32543 was a LBSCR C2 class, built by the Vulcan Foundry numbered 543 December 1901. Rebuilt to class C2X October 1915. SR B543, later 2543, after 1923. Renumbered 32543 August 1948 and withdrawn October 1960.
