Baby Peggy
“Baby Peggy” (Margaret Montgomery) was a child star of silent films – the only real rival of the very popular Jackie Coogan, according to The Internet Movie Database. Born in 1918, she is still alive (as far as I know) and has written and spoken out on the problems of child actors for a number of years. Her story is fairly typical – “discovered” at 19 months, she had a string of hits for a few years, and was all washed up by age eight. She was left basically penniless by her parents, who spend the fortune she had made. I saw her not too long ago on an A&E show about child stars. It’s a sad, sad story but she was clearly a really cute and appealing kid.
This photo postcard is clearly a publicity shot, but I do not know for what film.
