Intro: Why Did I Do This?
As an Atheist I believe in all gods and other supernatural claims for which exists solid, repeatable, scientific evidence [none].
I have put this atheist tattoo on myself for a few different reasons:
1) So that people around me will know that I am one; that by knowing a good, decent, hardworking, sweet, attractive atheist I might dispel negative stereotypes of atheists. This one didn't work that well because the placement of the tattoo means few can see it in my day-to-day without my permission. If I redo this; perhaps I will put it on my upper chest that it may be seen when I wear a lowcut top.
2) To mainstream atheism in the blogosphere. While things that are put up on the internet rarely become smash hits, I believe that the presence of such photos will in some way contribute to the mainstream nature of rational atheism (for you "agnostics", I suggest you check your definitions www.youtube.com/watch?v=fkEJtQJ5tz4). By making atheism more acceptable and "sexy" I will be contributing to a general ability to come out of the closet to friends and family (as I am with my own family).
3) Cauz it was fun! Not everything has to be political you know. Sometimes you just want to make a godless-inspired work of art. Comment with your own fun way that you've expressed your lack of beliefs, I think it would be cool to see them!
If you have more questions about atheism in general, here is a very good faq about it: www.atheist-community.org/faq/
