Grooveshark, I am disappoint
Playing around with a new Grooveshark account this week. Firefox is my primary browser and I run AdBlock Plus on it, largely due to stuff like this. The screen shot above is what happened when I tried to use Safari as a stand-alone Gooveshark player today. I can't search by artist, add all, and play on shuffle because the ad covers a vital part of the user interface.
I'm fine with companies like Grooveshark generating revenue via ads. And particularly when a site or service is really cool I feel bad for blocking their ads. But when I add an exception to my ad blocker or run an alternate browser it's alarming how regularly I run into situations where ads block part of the UI, dramatically increase load times, or otherwise erode my user experience.
And in the case of Grooveshark, as awesome as it seems with a few hours of playing with it, I worry that their freemium model offers little incentive for them to fix stuff like this. I can avoid ad fails by upgrading my account, or by throwing your service back under my ad blocker.
