ב-10 בדצמבר 1918, חיילים ניו זילנדים, אוסטרלים וסקוטים, הקיפו את כפרו, סרפנד אל-ח'ראב, שרפו את הכפר וטבחו כ-40 גברים. אחיו הגדול, עבדאללה, שנפטר חודשים ספורים לפני צילום זה, אחז במוחמד התינוק, כיסה את פניו ופיו שנשימתו לא תישמע, והתחבא איתו באחת ממשוכות הצבר בסביבות הכפר.
מה שידוע זה שהחייל הניו זילנדי לזלי לאורי נרצח ע"י ערבי. מי הערבי, לא ידוע, כנראה לא היה מסרפנד.
למה נרצח? הגרסאות שונות, ניסה לאנוס בחורה, רדף אחרי ערבי שגנב לו את הקיטבג.
הטבח היה נקמה.

Muhammad was born in 1917.
On 10 December 1918, New Zealand, Australian & Scottish soldiers,
surrounded his village, Sarafand El-Kharab, burned the village and massacred about 40 men. Muhammad's older brother, 'Abdalla, who died a few months before this picture was taken, held baby Muhammad, covered his face and mouth so their breathing is not heard, and hid in one of the cactus hedges around the village.
What's known in that the New Zealand soldier Leslie LAURY was murdered by an Arab. Who was the Arab, is unknown, probably he was not from Sarafand. Why was Laury murdered? There are different versions, one was that he tried to rape a woman, other one was that he was kiled while chasing the Arab that stole his kitbag.
The Massacre was a revenge.
Laury is buried in the British military cemetery in Ramle.
