Lambeth Palace

This is a postcard published by Samuels Ltd who had premises in the Strand and Regent Street, it was also printed in England and has a divided back. The view shows Lambeth Palace and Lambeth Pier from the Lambeth Suspension Bridge looking west towards the south bank of the Thames. The date of the photograph is difficult to pin down to one year, the London County Council riverboat service lasted from 1905 until 1907 before it went out of business and all thirty paddle steamers were sold. The LCC boat at Lambeth Pier is the “Purcell” which was built at the Thames Ironworks at Blackwall and like all the other boats cost £6000.00 to build. In 1909 the boat was sold at auction for £980.00 to the Royal Servian Privilege Steamship Company, she ended her days on the River Danube in Belgrade.
