Leonard Bentley
Piccadilly Circus: 1944
This is a found photograph showing an American Army Sergeant in Piccadilly Circus, the view is looking north west towards Glasshouse Street and the Piccadilly Hotel. The photograph is three and a quarter inches by two and a quarter inches, this format was used by the Graflex press camera and the photograph looks like a contact print. The notes on the back of the photograph state that it was taken by Bernard Salmond and the sergeant's name was Larry. The film advertised on a hoarding top right is "Home in Indiana" showing at the Odeon, Leicester Square in the latter part of August and early September 1944. It was a film about harness racing and starred Walter Brennan, Charlotte Greenwood and Ward Bond of Wagon Train fame. I would like to know the make of the camera Larry is holding, it is in quite a nice case.
