Save on Home energy costs - TOP TIP
When we think about where our energy dollars go, we notice the obvious choices we see every day around the house - lights, kitchen appliances, television, and air conditioning and heating.
But we tend to overlook the expense of heating water for our daily needs, however 25% of each energy dollar goes to heat water.
Thats .25 cents on every dollar of our electric bills.
Ouch !
I'm not gonna suggest that we all turn down the temperatures of our hot water heaters, although if your hot water heater is easily accessible I would recomend it because the hotter your water is the more electricity it takes to heat it.
My hot water heater is behind an access panel in my sons closet, it's hard to get to and I want hot water when I use it , not luke warm.
Instead what I want each of you to understand is that it costs approx: .12-15 cents per hour for your hot water heaters to heat your water.
Thats about $2.00 - $2.50 per day.
My next question is... How often do you use hot water ?
With a little re-arranging of your schedules you can reduce the cost of running your hot water heater to just pennies per month.
I turn off the breaker in our electric breaker box ALL NIGHT and ALL DAY.
I don't use hot water during the day so why pay for all of those un-nessesay heating hours?
I turn it back on between 5:00 - 6:00 PM, it has time now to heat the water we will need for dishes, and showers.
At 9:00 PM I flip the breaker back to OFF.
So at this point Im paying for just 4 hours of heating time per day at a cost of maybe .50 cents per day or less.
I save about $40.00 per month on my electric bill.
NOTE: I did have to set an alarm clock for 5:00 PM to remind myself to turn it on.
