Another in my Philippines experience. What an incredible country this is.
Rosey and I lived on the Island of Panay for 6 months with Rosey's sister. Iloilo is one of the 3 cities on this island, and we were about 18 klms out of Iloilo in San Miguel. We stayed in the house their son had built them (he had been working on cruise ships for many years before) and had accumulated enough money to give his parents a place to stay. As the son was living in Manila, we took over his room and with air conditioning it was magnificent.
To reach Iloilo from Manila it is a short 1-hour plane flight and two carriers, Philippine Airlines or Cebu Pacific, have a few flights per day there. Where we lived at San Miguel was right on the planes' approach into the airport, so when Rosey and I walked in the morning, we would see either a "PAL" (Philippine Air Lines) or a Cebu Pacific plane coming in and from where we stood we could tell by the colour scheme.
Both Rosey and I enjoyed our stay there very much, although it was a lot hotter than in Ibabao where we spent most of our time.
My absolute joy each morning was to take my camera on our early morning walk and I would always see pics such as this. Because this jeepney came from a town another 1/2 hour away roughly, the law allowed the jeepney driver to put passengers on the roof as it was the only way. When the jeepney got closer to Iloilo, any passengers on the roof would be required to climb inside and this was no problem then as the inside of the jeepney was probably half empty.
The road is not in good condition. A bridge had been closed for repairs on another road, necessitating trucks using this section of road and very quickly it turned into a dirt road (it had been once sealed) and then the potholes appeared. Some of the potholes were incredible!!
A few months' after this picture was taken the President of the Philippines was making a tour and a sudden flurry of activity occurred and the road was graded and then cemented. Amazing what officialdom can do. Up until that point it was "maybe one day"!!!!
As you can see, some see the funny side of traveling in this way. For others they have gone past me and are looking ahead for the next big pothole no doubt for there were many along this road.
Thanks for your visits and comments and faves!!! May God continue to bless you in all you do. Love always from Clive and Rosey xxxxxxx
