IMG_1791 - Harvest Is Near . . .

Rosey and I are now living in Leeton, New South Wales. When we arrived here 3 or so months ago, it was to do a house-sit for a young couple who were then taking a 3-month honeymoon around the world. When we applied for Leeton we had no idea it was 1,300 klms away from Gympie and Kilcoy, both in Queensland, where we had been living for the past 3 months, staying with wonderful friends. Jim, the husband, is Aussie and his wife, Lita, is Filipino, so we got on well together and Rosey and Lita got on well together.

Then it was time to farewell our lovely friends and head south. We had bought Jim's trusty Mitsubishi Starwagon GLX and we slept in this on our way down, taking 6 days, staying in truck stops or road houses, the latter proving to be popular as they had FREE hot showers and a canteen if we wished to partake of their food.

We visited such magnificent places as Goondiwindi (saw a cattle auction there - that was an eye-opener for Rosey), then stopped off at Siding Springs and Parkes Telescopes, the Warrumbungle Ranges (awesome), Dubbo and a wonderful sunset and a fantastic Italian meal (take-away), where we were visited by a big friendly dog, obviously hoping for a hand-out, but because he was so well fed, we declined, Narrandera (where the Tiger Moth aircraft museum is housed and magnificent historical photographs and stories there), eventually arriving in Leeton and meeting our young couple and their lovely staffy cross dog called Jay, rabbit (Oscar) and fighting fish (Louie).

After a month or so in this quaint little town, I felt a love affair beginning, not with any other women I will quickly add here - Rosey is the love of my life - no, it was a love affair with the people of Leeton and this quaint township, the very dynamic Christian Family Church that we eventually joined, thinking it was a Baptist Church (and it is, except the Baptists moved to Griffith and they now rent this church), and everythhing else there is to think about this quaint town (12,000 people) or so. Then down the history track the famous poet and writer, Henry Lawson, was born here. I have not seen his house yet but that will happen one of these days.

We loved this place to much, we decided to stay and cancelled our next house-sit in Noosa (as luck would have it, the owners had an enquiry from a friend of theirs who had to move out of his house while it was being refurbished, so he moved in)!!!

Our hosue-sitting days were over, we decided to take up a unit here and we have a beuatiful unit just on the edge of town, 2 bedrooms or our bedroom and an office plus huge lounge-dining area - we are within walking distance to everything here.

Then, out of the blue 2 weeks ago, we received a call from a lady and her husband who were desperate for someone to mind their 50-acre orange farm, right on the edge of town, 2 klms away from us. We visited this couple and decided we would take it providing they paid for the rent on the unit, which they readily agreed to. WOW!!!! They are at present attending the Isle of Man TT races (yes, I am green with envy!! - for you people not acquainted with this, it is held yearly I believe and here is a link . . . en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isle_of_Man_TT . . . or this . . . www.iomtt.com/ . . .

So on Monday of next week, Rosey and I will relocate to their farm and we have 20 ducks to feed and bring in and let out of a morning, and 3 lovely dogs - Diesel, Muttley and Jack - I love their names - Diesel is a boxer, Muttley is a bit of this and bit of that little terrier, and Jack is a terrier also.

In this picture of a close-up of an orange, leaves, raindrops and reflections in the raindrops, I took this while visiting last week after some rain. Rosey has expressed an interest in picking oranges and when the owners come back, picking will commence and it will be interesting to see how she goes - given her other talents, she will slot into this very easily!!!!

The weather is a lot colder than we are used to - we are adjusting - it is great to have a doona on the bed at night and be able to sleep comfortably!!!
