IMG_6927 - Fishing For What Life Offers . . .

This particular fishing boat with the net and sponge mattress is in the background of the picture below this one.

For me it is a fishing net and just that. For these fisherfolk this is their means of livelihood. How hard they work I do not know but I do not think it would be an easy life, such as pen pushing or like myself, walking of a morning and tapping keys on my computer, to give you an idea of the difference. I knew a fisherman in Tin Can Bay, Queensland, Australia, where I used to live, and he was in waist deep water for a few hours of a night dragging nets (he wore the waterproof waders trout fishermen use). He did not complain how hard it was, to him it was his job and so he got on with it. His name is Malcolm and he became a great friend of mine and when he came in of a morning to where the dolphins also came in I would inspect his catch.

In the background is the mother ship you saw a few days ago. It is like a mother hen with her attendant chicks in tow. I also notice there are 3 boats tied up alongside too!!! These fishing bangka vessels attached to the back of the mother ship are very much like this one. So with a ship this size, with the attendant fishing boats I imagine this pays well but I am not sure. On this day the sea was calm, the sky was blue, the headland peaceful, no wind or very little.

Two days later the super typhoon went through the northern part of the main island of the Philippines. We went home the day before and although quite a rough trip we made it home safely. All shipping was cancelled the next day.

Around two years ago now, a passenger ship, "The Princess Of The Stars", carrying "between 700-800 people", sailed into a typhoon. Why the Coast Guard did not order the ship to stay in the harbour is unclear or why the captain sailed is also unclear. However, the ship encountered giant waves and finally rolled over. Many lost their lives.

So although this scene is a peaceful one, where fishing is concerned, boats are also used to carry passengers/cargo. Most arrive safely and without incident - for "The Princess Of The Stars" these people were not so lucky. May their souls rest in peace.

Thank you for joining me on another journey into my idyllic lifestyle here in the Philippines. What a wonderful journey it has been too. Thanks also for your continued support and your very generous and kind comments. I appreciate them all and your faves too!!!! Flickr has become like a "home" to me and you are all my "housemates", even though you are scattered far and wide on this beautiful earth we all share. Thank you God for the privilege of being able to share my story!!!!

In closing this picture reminds me of Jesus when He walked beside the Sea of Galilee, and in Matthew 4:18-20 - it says - As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. "Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed Him.
