Giant’s Rib, Waterfalls along the Niagara Escarpment, Newsletter Article # 59 July 2013, Cliffview Falls

Cliffview Falls is located on a tributary of the Chedoke Creek at the beginning of the deep ravine which is located beside Cliffview Park at the northwest corner of Scenic Dr. and Upper Paradise Rd. in Hamilton. Its coordinates are 43.2443 N and 79.9079 W.

Cliffview Falls is considered a Terraced Ribbon Cascade type of waterfall. It does have year round flow, thus can be viewed at anytime. Its height is 15 m (49 ft.) and its width is 3 m (10 ft.). The water originates from a large storm sewer pipe as the creek above the waterfall had been enclosed numerous decades ago to allow for housing development on top of the escarpment.

This waterfall received its name from the adjoining park named Cliffview Park which is appropriately named due to the cliff-like edge of the Niagara Escarpment located there and the lovely view from this cliff edge..

The easiest way to view Cliffview Falls is from the top at Cliffview Park, however if the leaves on the trees are fully grown, as in summer, you may have difficulty in seeing much of this waterfall. The accompanying photo was taken in summer through one of the few openings in these leaves, however you will definitely hear the sounds of the falling water if you are unable to actually see it.
