Long-Billed Dowitcher (Series)
There was an unusual visitor to Jericho Park today. While I was standing on the path north of the marshy area west of the pond watching some Goldfinches in a bush, I noticed that about 12 feet east of me, just off the path was this single Long-Billed Dowitcher. It allowed me to approach to about 5 feet without being startled. It gave me only a few curious glances. I watched it for about 30 minutes expecting it to fly away at any moment but it stayed so eventually I left it to its feeding. It was still there when I came back about 20 minutes later.
