Heron with Vole

This young Great Blue Heron had caught a small mammal, a vole, I think, in the reeds at the edge of Jericho Park Pond. It then carried it quite a long distance along the shore to reach open water where it dunked the still squirming vole in the water, either to drown it, or to make it easier to swallow. Taken on November 17, 2009.
