Greater Yellowlegs
Taking a stroll along the dyke in Richmond just before dinner on Father's Day, I spotted this Greater Yellowlegs in the ditch along the dyke. Sadly, I wasn't carrying my Nikon D300 that I usually take birding, but fortunately I did have my little Panasonic point-and-shoot with its 10 X zoom lens in my pocket and so was at least able to record the rare event. Usually one has to visit the shore to see these shore birds and it is difficult to get as close to them as in this photo. I went back the next afternoon with my Nikon but of course the bird wasn't there!
