4-The Milky Way from the Alpujarras in Spain
The constellation of Scorpius lying on its side and bright star Antares is at bottom right just above the trees, and Sagittarius (the celestial teapot, looking as if it is in the process of pouring) is on the left just the other side of the Milky Way.
The centre of the galaxy with its massive black hole lies in the direction of Sagittarius - there is a sense of violent motion in the central clouds of the Milky Way.
The little curve of stars half way up the Milky Way at centre frame is the constellation of Scutum, and above that three stars of Aquila, the eagle, incuding the bright star Altair. Below these three stars is the cross beam and tail of the eagle pointing down toward Scutum.
At the left edge of the frame level with Aquila is Delphinus, the dolphin. Above Aquila and lying in the Milky Way is Sagitta, the arrow.
120 x 1 second exposures.
Camera was a 1004x-JG modified video camera on a fixed tripod and ball head. 2.9mm fl screw-in board lens. No filters. Camera in gamma mode 1 (highest internal DSP gamma stretching) and gain 75%.
Stacked and gamma stretched in Registax 5, high pass masking in Photoshop Elements.
