Impregnated female dragonfly looking to lay

Female Fiery skimmer, Orthetrum villosovittatum. Heathcote Creek, Heathcote National Park, NSW Australia, January 2011.

Immediately the inflight sex was over, the female started depositing eggs by dipping the end of her abdomen into the pond, while flying. At the same time the red male hovered around, aggressively defending the airspace.
