Dyer Island ist eine Insel im östlichen Südatlantik nahe der Westküste von Südafrika. Sie liegt etwa 6,5 Kilometer vom Küstenort Pearly Beach entfernt, zwischen der Stadt Gansbaai und dem Kap Agulhas. Sie gehört zur Gemeinde Overstrand im Distrikt Overberg.
Die flache und felsige Insel ist knapp 1000 Meter lang und bis zu 200 Meter breit. Etwa 200 Meter vor der Südwestspitze der Insel befindet sich die weit kleinere Insel Geyser Island.
Die bis dahin namenlose Insel wurde 1806 vom US-amerikanischen Auswanderer Samson Dyer in Besitz genommen, der hier Guano abbauen, Seebären töten und Pinguineier sammeln ließ. Guano wurde hier bis in die 1980er Jahre gewonnen. Heute ist die Insel unbewohnt und geschützt.
Dyer Island is an island in the eastern South Atlantic near the west coast of South Africa. It is located about 6.5 kilometers from the coastal town of Pearly Beach, between the town of Gansbaai and Cape Agulhas. It belongs to the municipality of Overstrand in the Overberg district.
The flat and rocky island is almost 1000 meters long and up to 200 meters wide. Around 200 meters off the south-western tip of the island is the much smaller Geyser Island.
The previously nameless island was taken possession of in 1806 by the American emigrant Samson Dyer, who had guano mined, fur seals killed and penguin eggs collected here. Guano was extracted here until the 1980s. Today, the island is uninhabited and protected.
