Snowy egret (breeding plumage)

Egretta thula

UT Southwestern Medical Center Rookery

Every year, when I was still visiting this rookery, things are different. This year, huge storms destroyed many trees. There was this tree stump that was created by breaking off the upper half of a dead tree. The snowy egrets were using the stump as a platform that they could show themselves off from. This gave me the chance to photograph them with enough distance between them and the background so that the background was at least somewhat out of focus. The best results for photographing these birds is when the background is blurred. The more blur the better.
