Chapelle des élus

The chapel of général elected, standing Committee of the Estates of Burgundy was built between 1738 and 1739.

It is often overlooked because of its landlocked position and its head, always visible from the street forges, remains the only element that identifies the outside. Tucked between the buildings of states, it owes its closeness to this configuration as well as his immense height enabled him to take one day above the surrounding buildings. The chapel was elected one of the most interesting buildings of the reign of Louis XV by its construction and decoration.

It owes its unique monumental and decorative party to the intervention of the king architect Jacques Gabriel (1667_1732) which modified the original program designed by the architect of execution, the Sparkling Stone. The sumptuous decor Scult walls, due to the talented artist of Dijon, Claude Saint-Père, is an illustration of the rococo style. Here, staples, coils of leaves, mix with shredded shells falling objects liturgical evoking scult decor of the chapel of the Château de Versailles. The marble altar is also a remarkable piece, directed by Servandoni Florentine interior designer, known as the greatest propagator of the style called "Baroque".

In 1743, the rest of the set was completed, including ornemants marble controlled by Spingola and trim due to Jacques Verbeckt Flemish sculptor and designer attached to the royal apartments at Versailles.

I made a spherical panorama of this magnificent chapel you can see by clicking on the link below. Instead of painting i have embedded an old photo of my first love i found it recently on Facebook, not seen for 21 years. This photo was taken in Greece to the temple of Poseidon, a magnificent temple towering on the edge of a cliff.
