It's a little recognized fact that Duplex binders came in narrower and wider varieties. (The narrower ones have an overlap of the pages when the binder is open, so you really only see three pages to view.)
These two binders are both of the wider form, although you can see that the leather binder is slightly more generously proportioned than the vinyl one, so there's a slight gap between the central pages when the binder is open.
But even in a Duplex binder of the wider form, once closed the two stacks of leaves on each set of rings do still need to overlap, as you can clearly see in this photo, because the spines push the pages towards the centre as you close each side – obvious really, but not something I’d appreciated until I actually got hold of one.
