This Photo Essay

This photo essay explores the differences of social roles (specifically gender roles) across cultures outside the United States, incorporating information acquired during the fall 2008 session of Sociology 101.

This essay focuses on the opinions of various people belonging/or having belonged to different cultures based in foreign countries, such as Bangladesh, Venezuela, the Philippines, Palestine, Indonesia, Syria, Albania and China. While they might currently reside in the United States or have returned to their native country, they each show unique positions on the differences between American culture and the one they grew up with.

The goal of this essay is to provide insight into the cultures of the people across the world and show how these people interpret their cultures similarities and differences with that of America.

Specific information and quotes will be cited from: Sociology, 10th edition. By Rodney Stark.
