EMR 222004 Through the Arches at Belper

The trick here, of course, it getting all 5 Bridges into the shot as well as the train. I'd normally set the camera up on a tripod for this shot so that everything was correctly framed and exposed before the arrival of a train, but this was the 50-140mm/F2.8 hand held, which seems to have worked out OK.

George Stevenson was responsible for the routing of the North Midland Railway through Belper in 1838, although the station was actually built in 1878.

I had absolutely no idea that this impressive series of brides existed until I discovered the wonderful photographs posted by David Hayes, entitled "Counting Bridges" and "Underneath the Arches". I would encourage one and all to see David's images.

David - Apologies for the copying. Thanks for the location. First time ever in Belper; a great little town with some great watering holes.
