Union Pacific Manifest Crossing the Amistad Reservoir, Del Rio, Texas

Photographing trains has been a passion of mine for many years and during that time I have had several experiences, which I would have preferred to have avoided. The list includes, but is not confined to, stumbling down a rock face in the Fraser Canyon, finding myself sharing a rock with a Rattlesnake in the Tehachapi Mountains and watching one of the legs of my tripod collapse in slow motion, resulting in a damaged Nikon F5 and a 300mm lens in Louisville. But this morning's encounter had to be seen to be believed. While photographing at this location, some 12 miles northwest of Del Rio I was "arrested" by the Texas Border Police for 1. Taking photographs of a train the with permission of the railroad, 2. Being suspected of assisting Mexicans to cross the border and 3. Parking my car in a position dangerous to other road users (the car was actually 50 yards off the main road). Anyway, after more that 2 hours in the company of Texas' Finest I was allowed to carry on with my journey to San Antonia. I managed one shot before the kafuffle and here it is.

A Union Pacific and Southern Pacific pairing crossing the Amistad Reservoir with a southbound manifest on what was originally Southern's Sunset Route.
