37421 “Strombidae” and 37418 “Pectinidae” Ready to Depart ORT, Leeds
By 1993 Double Headed 37’s oil trains in Leeds were becoming a little harder to see and the majority of runs out of the Shell Refinery were normally performed by class 47’s. Today we were in luck as the morning’s arrival from the Wirral had two of Shells’ Pool locos up front. The shot shows 37421 “Strombidae” and 37418 “Pectinidae” about to commence their journey back to Stanlow with the empty tanks. I am assuming, perhaps wrongly, that all train enthusiasts know that Shells Stanlow Pool Locos were all given the Latin name for a particular type of sea shell.
