The Lamp Man 2. Byron Steel

The more I talked with Byron the more I realised that this wasn't the cushy job it first appeared. I hadn't given any thought to the miles of track Byron will have walked over the course of his lengthy career, or the times that he would be called out in the middle of the night to see to a lamp that had blown out. Nor had I ever considered the weather conditions he had to endure at times. Freezing cold winter mornings which made the ladders and wooden platforms treacherous or when driving rain made it almost impossible to keep your eyes open. But perhaps worst of all conditions were the gale force winds, which made the gantry sway about.
