The Lamp Man

The Lamp Man

Tuesday 2nd April 2002 and I find my self at one of my favorite locations, Wrawby Junction. This morning I was more focused on watching the "Lamp Man" rather than trying to capture train movements.

The gentlemen in question is Byron Steel who was kind enough to let me take photographs him and to also explain a little of the work he does. The lamps are intended to burn for 8 or 9 days days between fillings, i.e. weekly plus a little margin for error. The lamps in this section are replaced every Tuesday, with the old ones being taken down to have their wicks trimmed, glasses cleaned and refilled ready to be recycled the following week.
