Significant expansion took place from the 30's onwards and by 1956 Enola was the world's largest freight yard. The yard's one day record of 20,660 cars established in 1956. Today the largest yard in America is Union Pacific's Bailey Yard in North Butte, Nebraska, which handles a mere 14,000 freight cars per day.
