CSX Pair Take an Intermodal Across the Ohio River at Henderson, Kentucky

Many years ago I set out to try and photograph all the railroad bridges over the major rivers of the USA. Whilst I managed quite a few, I had clearly underestimated both the number of bridges and the distances involved.

Today's target was achieved and just after 10.00am a couple of CSX locos, #585 and #7728 take an Intermodal across the Ohio River into Indiana. This is the second bridge at this location, built in 1932 by the Missouri Valley Bridge Company at a cost of $9 million on behalf of the L & N System.

The original bridge was constructed between 1884 and 1885 also by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad at a cost of $2,000,000. (One of the pillars is visible in the photograph). The bridge is now owned by CSX Transportation.

The Tug Boat is "Jay Budworth".
