The church is situated 2 miles from Ribblehead. Accidents were numerous and the church register shows that during the six year period of construction almost 100 of the shanty town dwellers at Ribblehead died and are buried here. A white marble memorial tablet is inscribed "To the memory of those who through accidents lost their lives constructing the railway works between Settle and Dent Head. This tablet was erected at the joint expense of their fellow workmen and the Midland Railway Company 1869 to 1876".
