Arriva Trains DMU on Ribblehead Viaduct

With 24 spans and a length of 440 yards there has never be any argument about Ribblehead being the longest viaduct on the line and in the renowned publication by Frederick W. Houghton and W. Hubert Foster, entitled "The Story of The Settle-Carlisle Line, first published in 1948, the stated height of 165 feet would have also made it the tallest. Unfortunately this is hugely inaccurate and a formal examination of the viaduct in 1976 to coincide with the line's centenary confirmed its height above the valley floor as 105 feet, making it the third tallest of all the Settle and Carlisle 22 viaducts. after Smardale (130 feet) and Arten Gill (117 feet).
