Southern Pacific and Union Pacific Combination, Dragoon, Arizona

Ex Southern Pacific SD45 #2775 leading #5687, #3235 and #8960 drift through what remains of the town with an Eastbound Merchandise train. The town of Dragoon dates back to somewhere around 1856, its name originating from the 3rd United States Cavalry Dragoons who battled Cochise and the Chiricahua in the surrounding Dragoon Mountains during the Apache Wars. Prior to the arrival of the railroad, Dragoon was a stopping point for the famous Butterfield's Overland Mail Company.
