Texas Armadillo
The armadillo has short stubby legs, but can move very quickly in spite the fact they carry this leathery armor shell. They root into the ground, digging for grubs and insects leaving holes in the ground. They also have poor eyesight, so they rely more on their ears and nose to detect food and predators. The Nine-banded armadillo is Texas state small mammal. An interesting fact is that they like to swim and can hold their breath and impressive four to six minutes!!
