TWO-OF-KIND

I’ve only seen one other copy of this 60" x 45" Size "B" Subway poster.

by Pat Dypold

Her signature in in the bottom right corner.

Mint Condition - Not For Sale.

code 71241 which I believe places it in 1972 or 1973.

I'm posting this today in honor of Valentine's Day.

Pat was by far the most prolific freelance UnCola artist. She created some of the most iconic 21’x10’ billboards in the award winning ad campaign orchestrated by the J Walter Thompson [advertising] Co. in Chicago that ran from 1968 until the mid 1970’s.

I believe this 60" x 45" poster image is the original formatted size. My 21'x10' billboard of this same image has the flowers at the top center cropped to get the proportions to work. This Size "B" was likely used for bus stop or subway locations.

It's actually a "poster offer" if you look at the text in the bottom right corner. There are 3 more 60" x 45" "poster offers" in the mail to me now with each one being only the 2nd known copy. Check back later.

Linked below is the ONLY KNOWN COPY of this same image in 21’x10’ Size “A” billboard (the flowers are cropped a lot for this aspect ratio::

This 27" x 27" acetate scarf has my favorite composition & proportions using this image. This acetate scarf is very sheer. When turned over it’s reversed, but almost just as clear. I think I prefer this size and square shape better than the paper versions. It’s created far ahead of of its time for square images on Instagram. The proportions are just phenomenal!

This is the only billboard poster offer that I've seen or been able to collect to date:

Here's a giant banner based on this image and adopted for a high school reunion:

Please do the right thing and contact me in advance if you wish to discuss the use or reuse of my images and provide a link to my originals. I would also ask that I be given a "first look" at any 7Up UnCola billboards or posters before you market them to the general public in return for my extensive investment in time, money and research, including interviewing some of the surviving artists. Thanks, and enjoy. - - -
