SMASHfestUK Earth and Sky Tour 2017 @Neath with Swansea Science Festival.
SMASHfestUK went on the fourth leg of our 'Earth and Sky' tour, heading out of England, to Neath in South Wales, for the first time. With sponsorship from the Royal Academy of Engineering, the UK Space Agency and the Science and Technology Facilities Council, and the support of Middlesex University, the University of Greenwich, Swansea University, Cardiff University, the University of South Wales, the National Museum of Wales, Neath Town Council, Neath and Port Talbot Council and lots of wonderful local engineers, artists and scientists, volunteers and organisations, we built an outdoor festival, across two sites, with the Survival Village and Space Camp erupting out of the Supervolcano into the centre of Neath! Thank you to everyone who visited, participated and contributed. It was another blazingly bright, uplifting and AWESOME day! Another amazing day battling inequality and underrepresentation in STEM and the Arts by engaging with a neglected community through a compelling story, with interdisciplinary knowledge and experiences creating intergenerational learning. Another amazing day building Science Capital in a community, with the community. A first for SMASHfestUK in wonderful Wales and the second stage of our UK wide SMASHing!
