SMASHfestUK 2017 Supervolcano Schools Outreach Pilot
by WynGriff
We were lucky to be asked by Haberdashers Temple Grove Free School to pilot 2017's SMASHfestUK Supervolcano Outreach programme on July 4th, during the school's science week.
Everyone had great fun, learnt loads (including the SMASHfestUK team) - 180 volcano hats, 30m lava murals, 540 experiments, 3 eruptions & lots of happy faces!
We'll be building on the pilot and taking the outreach programme to school's across Lewisham, Greenwich and Barnet in early 2017.
Here's what the children and teachers said:
My favourite part was when we used pipettes like real scientists. - Vincent
I liked seeing the massive explosion! – Gabriel
I liked the experiment at the table because I’ve learnt that acid was orange and alkaline was green. – Niamh
My favourite part was when the Pepsi exploded because it went higher than Miss Wilmshurst. - Beth
My favourite part was the experiment and the painting because the painting was messy and the experiment was interesting. – Patsy
I liked the explosion because it was really fun and it went so high! – Ewan
I liked painting the volcano because it looked like real lava! – Teija
The Smash Fest workshop was awesome! I liked everything. – Kaylen
Thank you so much for this afternoon! All of the activities were brilliant and everyone had so much fun. A bit of reigning and calming down was needed afterwards (it was obviously far too much fun!) and they were all excitedly talking about the volcanoes as they walked out the door! – Miss Stiles
It was such an enjoyable and informative day - thanks so much again! – Miss Wilmshurst
