Experimenter Publishing was an American media company founded by Hugo Gernsback in 1915. He was born in Luxembourg in 1884, and moved to America in 1904. He died in New York City in 1967,

 

The Hugo Awards, or "Hugos," are named in his honor. These annual achievement awards are presented at the World Science Fiction Convention.

The electric disintegrator was initially successful, but eventually became a vanished business.... Then its fortunes revived with the advent of Star Trek and the teleporter ... it also found some fame with Dr Who's Dalek vapourising guns.

Those were the days when everyone had a home laboratory complete with bunsen burners, dangerous chemicals and high voltage electric supply. In another world if television and WiFi had never arrived we would all still be massively engaged in spare time hobbies.

 

Nice that the guy has no safety glasses, but smartly dressed in shirt and tie.
