Nutritious pigeonpea helps buffer against drought

In drought affected regions, growing crops adapted to scarce rains enable farmers to get a nutritious harvest despite dry conditions. During the 2011 drought in Kenya, pigeonpea gave good yields while maize failed in neighbouring fields. Grain legumes like pigeonpea and chickpea are protein rich (upto 22% protein).
